pride parade Montclair NJ 2023 ty hyderally

By:  Ty Hyderally, Esq., and Jennifer Vorih, Esq.

Hyderally & Associates, P.C., helped celebrate Pride in Montclair last weekend! It was a beautiful day for people of all ages, genders, races, etc., to enjoy being free. In light of all of the anti-trans laws being passed elsewhere and all of the hate being spewed online, it was refreshing to celebrate our incredible diversity. For all of us, being present at and supporting an event which celebrates the LGBTQ+ community is a political act. For many of us, simply being truthful about who we are is an act of courage. So many of the people who attended Montclair Pride were free that day in ways they usually are not. It was truly wonderful to see people of all ages, genders, races, and sexual orientations celebrating and enjoying the day.

We are living in scary times, and it is crucial for all of us – trans folks, cis folks, lesbians, gays, bis, Blacks, whites, Asians, kids, parents, grandparents, Christians, Muslims, Jews, atheists, and everyone else – to stand up for what is right, and to stand up against bigotry.

First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist.

Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a trade unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

—Martin Niemöller

We are fortunate and privileged to live and work in an area which is relatively open and accepting of diversity. Montclair Pride was a great opportunity to relish our diversity and our ability to be who we are. New Jersey workers, particularly LGBTQ+ workers, are privileged to have some of the best legal protections in the country. As employment attorneys in Montclair, New Jersey, we are privileged to work with some of the best employment laws in the country. With that great privilege comes a great responsibility: to ensure that New Jersey and New York workers are able to exercise their rights. Our firm has been a proud sponsor of Montclair Pride since its inception last year. Every day, we work against bigotry, sexual orientation discrimination, and retaliation in employment. If you are facing issues in your employment, you can contact us for a free telephone consultation to discuss your matter. In the meantime, enjoy Pride and, in the spirit of Out Montclair, Be You and Be Heard.
